BlueCruise Ownership Cost Calculator

Choose your planned ownership period and the number of months per year you expect to subscribe. This is a DriveSpecLab calculation, not a Ford quote.

Monthly as needed$2,999.40
Annual every year$2,475.00
One-time at purchase$2,495.00

At 5 years and 12 subscribed months annually, the annual plan is the least expensive.

Assumes constant list prices, no taxes, trials, free included periods, discounts, or financing. Annual is modeled as one subscription each ownership year. One-time purchase is not available as a later upgrade under Ford's stated offer. If the interactive controls are unavailable in your browser, use the table below.

BlueCruise 1-Year, 3-Year and 5-Year Cost Comparison

Payment method1 year3 years5 years
12 monthly payments/year$599.88$1,799.64$2,999.40
Annual plan$495$1,485$2,475
One-time at vehicle purchase$2,495$2,495$2,495

Annual billing saves $104.88 per full year compared with 12 monthly payments. At five years, annual billing totals $2,475—just $20 below the one-time price. At six years, six annual payments would total $2,970, or $475 more than one-time.

Important: A one-time purchase is not automatically the best choice. A short ownership period, included trial, bundled plan, uncertain vehicle compatibility or changes to future services can change the economics.

What Exactly Does BlueCruise Do?

BlueCruise combines compatible adaptive cruise and lane-centering functions with hands-free operation on approved divided highways known as Blue Zones. Ford states that its network includes more than 130,000 miles of North American roads. A driver-facing camera checks attention. This is hands-free, eyes-on assistance—not a self-driving vehicle.

FeatureWhat buyers should know
Hands-free drivingOnly in supported Blue Zones and appropriate conditions.
Lane Change AssistAvailable on certain BlueCruise versions and configurations.
In-Lane RepositioningAvailable on supported versions; adjusts position within the lane.
Automatic Lane ChangeBlueCruise 1.5+ on select supported vehicles, not every BlueCruise-equipped Ford.
Driver monitoringDriver must keep eyes on the road and remain ready to intervene.

Which Ford Models Can Have BlueCruise?

Ford identifies the following U.S. vehicle lines as BlueCruise-available, depending on year and configuration:

  • Mustang Mach-E
  • F-150
  • F-150 Lightning
  • Explorer
  • Expedition

Do not assume every trim or model year qualifies. Before buying, check the VIN in your Ford Account or Ford app under Connected Services, confirm the software version, and ask whether a trial or paid plan is active. For example, Ford lists BlueCruise availability on selected 2026 F-150 trims rather than across the entire lineup.

BlueCruise Versions: Why the Software Number Matters

VersionNotable capability
1.0Core hands-free operation in Blue Zones
1.2Lane Change Assist and In-Lane Repositioning
1.3Improved performance on curves and narrow lanes
1.4Additional stability and curve handling improvements
1.5Automatic Lane Change on eligible vehicles

Ford says Automatic Lane Change with BlueCruise 1.5 or higher is available on supported 2025/2026 Mustang Mach-E and 2026 Explorer vehicles. Software features can vary even within the same vehicle nameplate.

Can BlueCruise Be Used While Towing?

Do not generalize towing support across Ford vehicles. Ford has announced BlueCruise with Towing for properly equipped 2027 F-150 models, subject to specific conditions. That does not mean older trucks automatically gain towing support. Check the exact model, software, trailer and Ford's current restrictions before relying on the feature.

BlueCruise vs Tesla FSD vs GM Super Cruise

These systems should not be judged by marketing names alone. Ford BlueCruise and GM Super Cruise focus on hands-free operation on supported roads, while Tesla FSD (Supervised) is a supervised driver-assistance system designed for a broader range of driving environments. None eliminates the driver's responsibility.
